About LovePlanner
LovePlanner is an exercise and goal planner to help you and your partner plan for long term relationship success.
This was an end-to-end solo project designed within 16 weeks by me as the sole UX researcher and Product Designer.
🧠 The Big Idea
Apps have revolutionized dating and social connection—but they've also contributed to a "swipe-and-ditch" culture. Many couples struggle to stay committed, with little support for long-term growth and shared goals.
The Problem
There's no dedicated tool that helps couples track, share, and reflect on their relationship goals—leading to misalignment, poor communication, and ultimately, breakups.
💔 50% of marriages end in divorce, with lack of commitment being the leading cause
🔎 Research Insights
Industry Trends
• First marriage divorce rate: 41%
• The top reason for divorce is the lack of commitment between couples
• Break ups become less likely with time (regardless of marital status)
Market Analysis
I evaluated apps like LoveNudge, Relish, Lasting, and Gottman Card Deck. Most focused on communication or intimacy—but none emphasized goal planning and mutual reflection.
👥 User Research
I interviewed 3 long-term couples and surveyed 17 participants.
Couples who plan and reflect together build stronger alignment and satisfaction.
💡 Hypothesis
Goal planning strengthens communication and deepens connection—leading to longer, healthier relationships.
The Solution
A mobile app where couples can:
• Complete communication exercises
• Set and share relationship goals
• Reflect on progress together
👩🏻💻 Design Process
Ideation & Inspiration
I knew I wanted to design something that started with a list of questions and prompts that help couples determine their relationship health, so I started by gaining inspiration from popular online assessments and quizzes such as The Love Language Test and Personality Test.

Crafting the Prompts
I sourced reflection questions from expert coaches, focusing on:
• Communication patterns
• Future planning
• Shared values
Wireframes to Prototypes
🔁 Usability Testing
I ran moderated tests using the mid-fi prototype. Feedback focused on clarity, inclusivity, and feature interaction.
💬 Communications Exercise
• Modernized and inclusive language needed
• Users wanted visual feedback (e.g., progress tracking)
• Added Love Language filtering
Assessment Summary
• Too much text → redesigned with visual charts and icons
• Users wanted to see what they did well on
Goal Selection
• Confusing interactions: tap vs. swipe
• Added microcopy and animation to guide users
Partner Transparency
• Mixed feelings on seeing a partner's results
• Added a privacy toggle to control sharing
🎨 Visual Design
Color Palette
• Purple for reflection and intention
• Green for personal growth
Component System
Built reusable UI components in Figma for consistency and scalability.
⚡️ Final Design Highlights
💬 Communications Exercise
• Updated tone with inclusive pronouns
• Graphic support for clarity and engagement
Assessments Summary
Added hearts, ring charts, and score highlights
Goal Setting
• Added progress indicators, reminders, and priorities
• Clearer selection and editing interactions
Partner View Setting
Introduced privacy controls for assessment visibility

🔮 Future Explorations
Communications Exercise
Run A/B tests to test different value selection systems that users might prefer
Reflection Features
Add more reflection features, such as reflecting after completion of a goal. Build deeper analytics and visualization for relationship progress.
📚 Learnings & Takeaways
• Developed a passion for design systems and scalable UX components
• Learned how to test and iterate based on real relationship dynamics
• Realized that even design tools can bring people closer—like therapy in your pocket 💞
• Personally: I now use these reflection questions with my fiancé! (now husband!)
